We (Darren and José) will be using similar techniques to study both species in the same areas at the same time. So we decided to place the activities together on this blog. However the projects are different. Find out more about the peccary project here and the tapir here.

The anta project

To understand more about the population genetics of lowland Tapir we will be collecting information in Intervales state park and Nucleo Caraguatatuba (Serra do Mar state park). The data collected will be used to estimate gene flow between two populations.


Para entender mais sobre a genética de populações da anta estaremos coletando informações no Parque Estadual Intervales e Núcleo Caraguatatuba (Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar). Os dados coletados serão usados para estimar o fluxo gênico entre as duas populações.

Populations are declining, loss of habitat through deforestation and hunting.
